I love to experiment with color. Painting is one of the best and most economically friendly ways I have found to really change the perspective and emotions that a person feels when in a space. Don't be afraid to paint not only your walls with vivid color but also you ceilings.

Say you want a "Red" room. That does not mean you need to paint the walls red.  Paint your ceiling red instead. Then balance the strong color on the ceiling with a more neutral color on the walls. For example, if you are traditional try painting your ceiling Sherwin Williams Fire Weed SW 6328 and the wall Sherwin Williams BaguetteSW6123.  Be sure you have some crown molding around the ceiling to seperate the two colors. If you are contemporary, you might try painting the walls red with Sherwin Williams Rave Red SW6608 and the ceiling paint with a metallic paint such as Valspar Brilliant Metals Shimmering Bronze EE2070 which can be found at Lowes.

Another fabulous idea I like to experientment with is stencils and faux finishes. Say you have painted your ceiling a beautiful chocolate, but it needs a little pop to really make the room come to life. Try adding a all over leafy stencil in metallic gold over the chocolate. If all over stencil is too much think about a medallion stencil just around a stunning lighting fixture.  The main idea is that paint is a great way to update and reinvent a room.
