San Miguel de Allende

We woke up and started the day with a 2 hour walk through the town.  We got to the highest point in the city and the view was breathe taking. Then it was time to start working.  There are 5 door shops in town.  We hit all 5 and ended up finding some amazing mesquite antique doors for the interiors.  The one for the master bedroom is hand carved.  Another one for one of the bedrooms is colonial and actually still has the frame attached.

Look at how old the doors are.... above is the actual hinges on the doors!

After we selected the doors, we drove to the Cantera warehouse. They have so many wonderful colors of cantera stone and slate.  Basically, any design you come up with they can carve and you get it back in one week!  We selected the fireplace mantel for the masterbed room.  And decided to cover the front porch entry of the house in an orange cantera stone.  I designed the floor pattern and a beautiful archway to go around the front door.

Next, we went back into town and stopped at a place call La Palapas.  Where I had two of the best fish tacos I have ever eaten.  After lunch, Terri and I hit the town.  We shopped all afternoon and found two antique armoires, almost all the light fixtures for the house and some incredible artwork.  When you walking through the town you hear the church bells ring, see burrows walking side by side with cars( right down the middle of the street). Mexican women sale dolls and blankets they have made.  Everyone you pass smiles and says, good day. The church in the middle of town is massive.  You can pretty much see it from any spot.  The architecture is unlike any I have ever seen. And across from it is a park with perfectly manicured trees and gardens.

We got to tour a Casa, called Casa Luna. The walls are painted in rich reds and terracottas. Green vines and flowers cover almost every inch of the rich colored walls and you hear a mulitple water fountains running.  They had pinatas hanging down the cooridors as you passed through metal gates.
