Today was our last day to shop in San Miguel. We ended up finding a handpainted breakfast table. It has a catcus base and carved into the top of the table is the history of Mexico. Each chair is totally different and they are faces of either Mexican cowboys or Katrina's. Katrinas are beautiful skeletons of Mexican women who are dressed in beautiful gowns and hats. The story comes from... or at least the tale I was told, was that when women die they go to Heaven and God gives them a key or pass which allows them to dress in all the beautiful things they did not have or could not afford on Earth. True or not they are really pretty and interesting.
Another tale I was told was that only Mexcian men can go into bars where you see the swinging doors like this.

We found a few more key accessories to really set the theme of the house. We also worked on the paint selections for the house and finished designing the talavera tile designs in order to give to the architect. I think we were able to find some great things here and now we know what we can get from the states to fill in with. Items that don't have to be special.
If you are ever lucky enough to be able to visit San Miguel, I highly recommend it. The shopping, food and people are all fabulous. And the weather, at least in March is perfect!
