Keeping it in the family

“While I like the things that I own, I don’t have anything that I could not live without. I am constantly moving things around, passing them on to friends – a sort of sharing- and when it is appropriate, using things I own in decorating schemes. When I use something that I have owned for many years in a project for a client, I don’t think of it as getting rid of something. For me, it is like keeping things in the family.” Albert Hadley, The Story of America’s Preeminent Interior Designer

I rearrange my personal home monthly, to my family and friends is almost a joke. But I never feel like I want to or that I am ‘getting rid’ of something. For example, I have owned some stunning smokey glass candle holders for ages and I have found from moving them around that they would look better in my girlfriends dining room. So I packed them up and took them over to her house. I knew it a perfect fit!

Another example is I have changed my color palette slightly lately intrigued by blues, creams and silver ( which I have never loved before) but still have really enjoyed bring them into my home. What to do with my red, orange and gold artwork? I still love it, so I share it with my sister and decorate her house with my treasures that I can not display right now.

Its a great way to change out some choice pieces in your interiors. Be sure the people you are sharing with understand when you are ready to change back its still your treasures. I encourage you to “keep it in your family” and see what items you have to trade.
